Recruitment period: April - June 2024

Research to improve the detection of corticosteroids in doping controls

What does the study consist of?

The study is divided into 4 parts, differing in the route of drug administration; part 1 - oral, part 2 - rectal, part 3 - intranasal, part 4 - inhaled. A total of 28 healthy volunteers are needed, 8 in each part except for part 2 where 4 volunteers are needed. If you participate in one part of the study, you will not be able to participate in another part. Depending on the part of the study, it will last between 3 and 7 days.

If you are selected according to the criteria of the study protocol, you will be scheduled one day at the Clinical Research Unit of the Hospital del Mar (CRU) for an initial medical examination. A physical examination will be performed, details of your medical history will be collected, vital signs will be taken, and blood and urine tests will be performed, as well as drug and alcohol tests.

The study aims to evaluate the metabolic and excretion profile of Beclomethasone, a corticosteroid used in the market for the treatment of asthma, among other uses. It is also used by elite athletes to improve their performance, something currently prohibited in competitions. This study aims to improve detection methods when a person administers this drug for recreational purposes.
