We invite you to the next IMIM Invited speakers Seminar, which will take place on Thursday 24/03/2022 at 8:00 h. The title will be "Non-invasive brain stimulation in neurodevelopmental disorders",by Dr. Natalia Albein-Urios, Cognitive Neuroscience Unit. School of Psychology, Deakin University (Australia)
Abstract:
Autism is a life-long neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by two core symptoms: social communication problems and restricted and repetitive behaviours. It is a highly prevalent (1 in 59) condition that can cause extreme suffering to people living with the disorder and their carers. Despite these alarming numbers, there are no validated biomedical treatments that target the core symptoms of autism. Non-invasive brain stimulation is a novel, safe, and promising non-pharmaceutical treatment option for autism. During this talk, I will be presenting our most recent data on the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) for improving social cognition and cognitive flexibility in young adults with autism.
