“In Memoriam: the research work of Bea Calvo”

Us convidem al pròxim Open GRIB Seminar organitzat pel Programa de recerca en Informàtica Biomèdica (GRIB), que tindrà lloc el dijous 14/03/2024 a les 12:00 h. El títol serà "In Memoriam: the research work of Bea Calvo" i anirà a càrrec de Robert Castelo, cap del Grup de Genòmica Funcional del programa conjunt de recerca en Informàtica Biomèdica (GRIB) del Hospital del Mar Research Institute i la UPF.

Resum

Bea Calvo va morir el 10 de gener de 2024. Durant els darrers anys, va estar realitzant el seu doctorat sota la meva supervisió, treballant en la quantificació de l'expressió d'ARN a partir d'elements transponibles, el diagnòstic i el tractament de la contaminació d'ADN genòmic en dades de seqüenciació d'ARN, i la contribució de l'expressió d'ARN no codificant a la resposta inflamatòria fetal en nadons extremadament prematurs. En aquesta xerrada repassaré la contribució de la seva feina a aquestes qüestions.

We invite you to the next Open GRIB Seminar organized by the Biomedical Informatics Research Program, which will take place on Thursday 14 March 2024 at 12.00 h. The title will be "In Memoriam: the research work of Bea Calvo", by Robert Castelo, Head of the Functional Genomics group of the Hospital del Mar Research Institute-UPF joint Research Programme on Biomedical Informatics (GRIB).

Abstract

Bea Calvo passed away on January 10th, 2024. During the last few years, she was doing her PhD under my supervision, working on quantification of RNA expression from transposable elements, diagnostic and treatment of genomic DNA contamination in RNA sequencing data, and the contribution of non-coding RNA expression to the fetal inflammatory response in extremely preterm newborns. In this talk I will review how her work contributed to these questions.
