According to the latest SCImago Institutions Ranking World Report
The 2011 SCImago Institutions Ranking World Report placed IMIM (Hospital del Mar Research Institute) in fifth place nationally with respect to excellence. This indicator shows institutes' ability to publish top articles in their scientific fields, an indicator that was added to this third edition. The IMIM obtained an excellence rating of 31.4%, after the National Centre on Oncology Research (CNIO), the Genome Regulation Centre (CRG), the Catalan Oncology Institute (ICO) and the Principe Felipe Research Centre (CIPF).
The IMIM was also distinguished by having 73.7% of magazine articles in the top quartile, an indicator for the most influential international scientific publications in their area of expertise, and the fact that articles published by IMIM receive more than double the number of citations as the international average. The IMIM also excelled in the international collaboration index of its publications, with 48.3%, coming in behind the Genome Regulation Centre (CRG), the Catalan Oncology Institute (ICO), Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), the National Centre on Oncology Research (CNIO) and the Higher Council of Scientific Research (CSIC).
The 2011 SCImago Institutions Ranking World Report is one of the most comprehensive rankings on research institutes around the world and aspires to become a framework for evaluating the research performance levels of research organisations. It currently analyses the publications of 3042 institutions, which were responsible for over 80% of world-wide scientific production in the 2005-2009 period, using articles from the Elsevier Scopus database.
This third edition of the report also added another new indicator, the specialisation index, on the profile of institutions.
