Translation and Technology Transfer

The Technology Translation and Transfer Department is responsible for the evaluation, protection, and transfer of all innovations generated within the Hospital del Mar Research Center. Its primary mission is to assess the outcomes of research conducted by the 65 investigative groups to identify potential innovations that may qualify for intellectual property protection (such as patents, utility models, or industrial secrets).

The department's overarching objective is to consistently contribute to projects aimed at the creation of new products or services that can have a positive impact on the healthcare system, particularly benefiting patients.

To achieve this goal, collaboration with the private sector is essential. This involves transferring projects through licensing agreements, seeking synergistic partnerships through public-private collaborations, or even establishing new private companies (spin-offs) to continue development while maintaining a connection with the institute.
