The purpose of the VEIS project is to develop, promote and manage the open ecosystem of Barcelona Computational Biomedical Ecosystem (BCBE) technologies by including and connecting the main computational tools developed by the partners and facilitating access to the genomic and omics data stored in the EGA, allowing integrated analysis of the information in the context of biomedical projects.
Moreover, existing technologies will also be connected and adapted to enable their use with the data stored in the EGA. The BCBE will be used for research and to incorporate new technologies, from generic big data and computing technologies to specific tech for bioinformatics and computational biology.
The project will include the implementation of BCBE tools in hospital environments, including local EGA units that demonstrate the capacity both to host their own data securely and to use the information available in the central EGA in combined analysis.
In the medium and long term (5-10 years), the BCBE's local EGA will remain accessible to research groups and companies in the sector, and during this time the VEIS consortium will be open to including groups and companies that are working in the field of omics analysis, adapting to the specific needs and new technologies that emerge.
All the knowledge generated directly by the project, as well as that produced when companies and research groups make use of the platform, will have direct repercussions on the Catalan Science and Technology System.
