The project led by Dr. Busquets, 'Identifying brain circuits involved in emotional recognition', has been one of the six winners in this edition in the category of Biology and Biomedicine. The aim of the project is to identify the specific brain circuits involved in empathy processes that may be involved in complex social deficits observed in some neurodevelopmental disorders or neurodegenerative diseases. To identify them, a specific mouse model and pharmacogenetic techniques will be used.

The Leonardo grants aim to help researchers at the midpoint of their scientific careers to promote their research projects. In this edition, 1,423 applications were submitted. With the 58 selected, there are now 660 projects that have received the impulse of this initiative.
